When Should You Replace Your Air Conditioner?

Surviving through those hot, sticky summer nights without having to take out a second mortgage to pay the power bill is all about efficiency. Is it more efficient to have your air conditioner serviced so that it’s working to it’s maximum potential and using the least amount of power, or is it cheaper to replace an older unit with a newer, more energy-efficient model?

For many people, the cheapest way to stay cool during summer is quite surprising and often involves an assessment by a professionally trained expert.

There are other factors when considering replacement such as the warranties which come with a new unit often providing peace of mind for up to 5 years beyond the point of purchase. Improvements in technology also mean that an air conditioner purchased in 2015 should use drastically less power to do the same job as a unit purchased 5 years ago.

Replacing can also be a good option if there is a significant fault with an existing unit as often the cost of replacement parts and installation can outweigh the cost of simply replacing the entire unit.

On the other hand, servicing can be advantageous if your air conditioner has been well maintained after installation. A good quality air conditioner can last for many years and provide efficient heating and cooling with professional servicing on a regular basis.

For those who have been consistent with their air conditioner’s maintenance, it means that the initial investment in their air conditioner becomes a lot more affordable when you consider the cost over the number of years in operation.

So should you simply have your air conditioner serviced, or should you replace it altogether? This is a question that our air conditioner technicians are asked all the time, which is why they’re in such demand…

If you’re feeling unsure if a service or replacement is the best way to go consider making time to speak with one of them about your individual circumstances and they can help you work out what’s best for you.
