Reverse cycle air conditioning cheaper than gas

A Melbourne University study recently found that using reverse cycle air conditioning was increasingly cheaper than warming your home with gas heating.

The study by Melbourne University’s, Melbourne Energy Institute found gas is no longer the inexpensive heating option it once was. Recent increases in gas prices, plus a predicted future increase of up to 30% over the next 5 years, means gas heaters will become a thing of the past in most homes.

The rise of solar-powered homes reduces the cost of running reverse cycle air conditioning even further.

Rising demand for the export of Australia’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) is thought to be the main contributor to the gas price rise.
