Common toilet plumbing issues that shouldn’t be ignored

  • 31 Aug 2020

From time to time we all experience a situation where something isn’t quite working as it’s supposed to, but it still does the job… Kind of. So we just accept that there is an issues and we’ll deal with it later; just not today.

The only problem is that in many cases these supposedly small problems that are so easy to brush aside, get worse costing us time and money. That’s why it’s best to tackle these as soon as they arise, just as the following toilet plumbing issues.

1. The toilet is running water

A running toilet is more than just an annoying drippling sound and a constant reminder of getting it fixed. It’s literally money going down the drain.

Don’t get used to a running toilet, just because it still does the job. The longer you ignore it, the more water is going to waste which isn’t only bad for the environment, it’s also adding to your water bills.

2. The flush isn’t working – single or dual flush

There’s no denying that a toilet that won’t flush is definitely a problem you want to get fixed immediately, so you can carry on with your business.

The cause of this problem could be a defective flushing button, a fault in the mechanism that handles the flushing process, no water or low water level in the toilet tank resulting from a blocked cistern inlet valve.

You get the gist; there are multiple possible causes, but don’t despair– you don’t have to figure this out yourself. Our qualified plumbers can get to the root of the problem and fix this for you. One less thing to worry about!

3. A clogged or blocked toilet

A clogged or blocked toilet is usually the result of foreign objects being flushed down the drain. It’s not just annoying, a blocked toilet can cause even more damage such as a flooded bathroom, damaged flooring or even blockages in the sewer system, if it isn’t fixed straight away.

4. A cracked or broken toilet tank

While toilet tanks are made to withstand the water pressure, it does happen that cracks appear over time. If this occurs, it’s time to take action right away, as a cracked toilet tank can lead to a water leak.

5. A faulty, rusted or poorly installed flexible water hose

Flexible water hoses are known to be one of the most common causes of flooding in the home. If the flexible hoses are rusted, poorly installed or faulty, they pose a huge risk of bursting, that’s why it’s so important to have them checked by a professional plumber regularly.
