5 Ideas to celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday

If you haven’t made any plans for Mother’s Day yet (don’t forget, it is this Sunday, 10th May), don’t worry, because we’ve got you covered!

Although the celebrations might be a little different this year, given that you are unable to take your mum out for dinner, visit the spa or do some of your usual favourite things, there are plenty of other ways to make this special occasion memorable.

1. Stock up on some tasty treats and have a picnic in the park

Now that some of the coronavirus restrictions will be eased from Mother’s Day this Sunday, you can enjoy some one-on-one outdoor quality time with your mum in the park. You can’t go wrong with a Mother’s Day picnic, it’s an old-time classic.

Just be aware that it will most likely be very busy, so keep your distance of at least 1.5 metres for safety reasons.

2. Get ready for a cook-off contest

Just because most restaurants are closed, doesn’t mean you have to forgo a delicious dinner! Get all family members involved and plan a five-course meal for the evening, where everyone can contribute by preparing a dish.

3. Soak up some sun while hiking

Chasing a little family adventure? It’s no surprise that during this worldwide quarantine, we’re all looking forward to roaming around in nature. Now that we are allowed to travel up to 50km from our home, hiking is back on the agenda! So, pack some lunch and get out your walking shoes, here are some beautiful hiking trails that are less than 50 kilometres away from central Brisbane;

  • Summit Circuit, Mt Coot-tha
  • Morelia walking track, D’Aguilar National Park
  • Maiala, Mt Glorious
  • Buhot Creek Circuit, Daisy Hill
  • Enoggera Reservoir
  • Boondall Wetlands
  • Venman Bushland National Park, Mt Cotton
4. Have a cosy one

Mother’s Day is not about buying presents and planning the most adventurous day trip, it’s about spending time together and celebrating your mum! So, if you don’t have anything exciting planned, don’t stress. Make the most of this Sunday by streaming one of mum’s favourite movies, playing board games or going down memory lane while looking at old photo albums.

5. Fire up the grill

Enjoy the weather with an Aussie BBQ before Winter hits… But don’t let mum do all the work, treat her like the queen she is and do the cooking yourself.

Spending time together with your loved ones is definitely not easy in times when we have to keep our distance in order to keep each other safe, but even if it’s not possible for you to see your mother in person this Mother’s Day, you can always make time for a video call.
