Riverfire is on this month – where to get the best view of the fireworks

  • 14 Sep 2018

Sunsuper Riverfire is wrapping up the Brisbane Festival this month with jets, music and a big bang that will literally blow your mind. Queensland’s largest annual public celebration is taking place on Saturday, 29th September at South Bank and is set to kick off at 7pm.

If you’re not one of those lucky folks whose balcony is overlooking the Brisbane river and cityscape, don’t despair: There are plenty of places that offer an incredible view of Brissie’s skyline, so you can soak up the beauty of the fireworks without anything standing in your way (besides a cold cocktail perhaps?).

Best places to watch the fireworks:

  • Southbank (Clem Jones Promenade, River Quay, or even enjoy the view in a private gondola on the very top of The Wheel of Brisbane)
  • Victoria Bridge, overlooking the river from above
  • Wilson’s Lookout, direct view of the Story Bridge
  • Kangaroo Point (KP Cliffs looking back towards the city or Captain Burke Park, right next to the Story Bridge)
  • City Riverwalk
  • Eagle Street Pier & Riverside Centre

The best spots on the north side are Stuartholme Road, Mount Coot-tha Lookout and Bilsen Road and on the south side Forbes Street, Camp Hill Bowls Club car park and Mount Gravatt Lookout.

Snacks and beverages can be purchased at most of the sites listed above. People with limited mobility can access the locations in South Bank, Eagle Street Pier, Riverside Centre and Captain Burke Park.

Also, be aware that many roads and bridges will be blocked to pedestrians and/or traffic during Riverfire (Brisbane Festival recommends using public transport).
