What is gas compliance certificate?

A gas compliance certificate confirms that your gas installation has been undertaken by a licenced gas fitter . The gas fitter checks your entire gas supply system and appliances to ensure that everything meets the required safety standards. They must then issue a gas compliance certificate within 30 days showing that you are compliant.

When do you need a gas certificate of compliance?

You need to request a gas certificate when:

• gas is connected to your building for the first time.
• you're getting gas reconnected at your building.
• the installation of a new gas pipe - for example a gas bayonet for a BBQ
• installing new gas appliances - hot water system, stove, cooktop, fireplace, oven
• you're replacing an existing gas appliance.

What do you do with the gas certificate?

You will get both a gas compliance certificate and plate. The compliance plate will usually be fitted to the inside of the electrical meter box. The certificate will need to have a copy passed onto your gas supplier to show that you are compliant. They will need this before they can legally turn the gas on.

What if you fail the gas certificate assessment?

In occasional cases the licenced gas fitter may not be able to certify your gas systems and issue the gas certificate. Often this is a result of a faulty gas appliance. In this case our gas fitters will explain the issues to the customer and organise a quote to rectify or repair it. If you are happy with our quote we can schedule the repair and then sign off on the compliance certificate once the problems have been resolved.

If the gas appliance or system in question is beyond repair, we can generally help you with the supply and installation of a replacement appliance.
